MORE ABOUT DAVE

I first got interested in recording when I was a teenager, recording my own music and my punk band's stuff with a couple of crappy mics, bouncing tracks around on a cassette 4-track. I continued recording my own stuff, my band's stuff, and my friends bands' stuff with progressively more and better mics/ gear/ tracks, and so on. After I dropped out of college, My wife, our cat and I moved to Chicago and made it our new home. I kept up with sound and music, and went back to school, receiving my bachelor's degree in Audio Arts & Acoustics with a concentration in recording from Columbia College Chicago, with courses in Audio Processing, Mic Techniques, Stereo Mic Techniques, Sound Engineering with the legendary, late great Malcolm Chisholm of Chess Records, Aesthetics in Sound Reinforcement with master Jack Alexander, Master class in Audio Recording at Chicago Tracks, Audio Technologies, Audio Production, Acoustics, Psycho-acoustics, Electronics, Audio Equipment Overview and Analysis, Science of Audio, Random Access Audio, Master Class on the Digital Audio Workstation, MIDI Sequencing, Studio Operations, Music Theory, Music History, Music of the 20th Century, History of Jazz, and Jazz Bass Guitar. Other studies included: Sociology, Relative Anthropology, Psychology, Macroeconomics, basic Political Science bullshit, Political Analysis of South-East Asia, Political Analysis of the Middle East, Marxism, Modern Conflict Theory, Elite Theory, Ancient Philosophy, Eastern Philosophy, Modern Philosophy, Ethics, Practical Ethical Dilemmas, Logic, Comparative Religions, Philosophy of the Artist in Society, Art History, History of Modern Art, Fundamentals of Design, Sculpture, Drawing, and Painting. ( I can bullshit my way through a lot of topics.) After graduating, I interned at Rax Trax, Chicago for a bit, where I got a lot of experience making coffee, taking out the trash, and doing dishes. I also learned how to professionally and efficiently facilitate a recording session. I continued putting together my own project studio in my basement and started recording bands and musicians on the side for extra cash. As word-of-mouth spread, I started doing it full time and named my place Stray Dog Recording Co., in honor of my recently passed best buddy, Gibson. Now, I'm in a bigger, better, more comfortable place on North Ave at a great location in Humbolt Park. I have hundreds of satisfied clients. Most are repeat costumers, and many have become good friends. I even have a part-time intern to make coffee and take out the trash now. I continue to play in bands, and produce my own music as well. www.raggeddickproductions.com
